Thank you for your interest in volunteering! We appreciate the help and support we receive from our volunteers.
Chartiers Valley School District Policy 916, consistent with Act 153 (more information), defines a volunteer as follows: an individual in an unpaid position with a program, activity or service who is individually responsible for the welfare of one or more children or has direct contact with children. In order to volunteer in our schools, you must complete the following and submit proof of completion to the school office:
1. Obtain Clearances
- Pennsylvania Department of Welfare Child Abuse History Clearance
- PA State Police Criminal Record Check
- FBI Criminal Background Check
2. Complete Mandated Reporter Training
A Mandated Reporter as a person who is required by law to report suspected child abuse. Mandated Reporter Training is a three (3) hour training that can be obtained online. Volunteers may take the online training through the University of Pittsburgh or the Pennsylvania Family Support Alliance.
3. Review our Volunteer Handbook before their first volunteer assignment.
Per District policy and Act 153, visitors/guests visiting a school under the direct supervision of Chartiers Valley personnel does not need to have clearance certifications. However, guests must be escorted in our schools and classrooms at all times and should also review the volunteer handbook before visiting.
