Mr. Schintz brings not only a familiarity with the IS community, but also a strong background in instructional leadership. Before assuming the role of Principal, Mr. Schintz served CVIS as the assistant principal and previously as a teacher and Math and Science Elementary Curriculum Lead. Mr. Schintz earned the SSP Excellence in Science Teaching Award and is a certified educator through Google Education, Project Lead the Way, and NMSI.

Here at CV, Mr. Schintz founded and coordinated STEM night at the IS and initiated partnerships with organizations like Robert Morris University and Remake Learning. Mr. Schintz holds a Masters of Arts in Teaching from Chatham University and a Bachelor of Science in Psychology from the University of Pittsburgh.

Ms. Heather Zalar

Ms. Zalar has been an educator for over 15 years, having served as a classroom teacher, instructional coach, and most recently a building administrator.  She began her career with Pittsburgh Public Schools and has worked in five other area schools. 

Ms. Zalar studied elementary education at Indiana University of Pennsylvania and earned a principal certification from Robert Morris University. 

Ms. Zalar prides herself on being visible and accessible to students, families, and staff, and she is extremely passionate about ensuring that all children have equitable access to the resources available to help them thrive.  

Outside of school, Ms. Zalar is busy being a mom to children who are involved in a number of sports and activities.  She enjoys hiking and camping and also serves in the Army National Guard.
